[edit] Niddrie Secondary College

Excuse me but why did you change the Niddrie Secondary College wikipedia page? The previous page was much more detailed and better. why did you change it??? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jane 01 (talkcontribs).

According to discussion on Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools (now at Archive 2) the convention for inclusion of information about school staff is much the same as that for notable alumni. Administration (headmaster/principal) type staff can be named, but otherwise, they should only be included if they have their own article or if they meet WP:BIO requirements.
Street addresses, phone numbers and email addresses are unnecessary. It's an encyclopedia, not a directory. Gimboid13 09:58, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Wes placek.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Wes placek.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 07:07, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Niddrie Secondary College

Your contributions to the article Niddrie Secondary College are welcome. I've reverted some of them, however, as they don't comply with Wikipedia's guidelines/policies.

An article's lead section should not be explicitly entitled "Introduction" or any equivalent header. The subject of the article should be mentioned in the first sentence and should be in bold text. See Wikipedia:Guide to layout.

Wikipedia is not a directory or the white pages. Street addresses and phone numbers should not be included. See Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not.

School administration (headmaster/principal) type staff can be named, but otherwise, they should only be included if they have their own article or if they meet WP:BIO requirements. See Archive 2 of Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools.

Before reverting others' edits, please take the time to familiarise yourself with the relevant guidelines/policies. If you feel the guidelines are not relevant in a particular situation please discuss your proposed edits on the article's talk page first. Gimboid13 04:24, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Naming conventions (capital letters)

Hi Jane. I saw your question on User talk:Nathanian's page. See WP:CAPS regarding article naming conventions. We usually use lower case unless there is a need to do otherwise (ie proper nouns). To my knowledge the generic use of the term 'Sports trainer' does not need capitalisation. See the guideline for more info. -- zzuuzz (talk) 23:40, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Niddrie Secondary College again

Hello again Jane. I've already explained (above and on the article's discussion page) that contact details for the school are unnecessary. I've also explained that the style manual requires the subject of the article to appear in bold. The links in the first sentence to the articles on the suburb, state and country in which the school is located are relevant and should not be removed. Please see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links).

Most schools 'offer a range of subjects'. Few, if any, would not have 'undergone many transformations' in the period since 1958. Such information is hardly notable. Of course, the name change is notable, but that's already mentioned elsewhere.

The current nickname for the school, the number of lockers and anticipated school uniform changes may be appropriate for a school newsletter but are really too trivial for an encyclopedia article.

Before adding information please consider whether it's appropriate for an encyclopedia article, as opposed to a newsletter or directory. If you feel any of the guidelines I've mentioned are not relevant please discuss them on the article's discussion page. Thank you. Gimboid13 19:58, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

I thought that the idea of wikipedia was to inform and educate! You have changed the article so much that there is little information on it at all. The information i added (about the chnaged occuring by 2008) was information that is necessary and informs the reader more about the school, why do you continue to delete it? Contact details are necessary and have been included in English High School of Boston article. (Jane 01 04:16, 4 February 2007 (UTC))
Thanks for replying Jane. I hope we can sort this out without resorting to edit wars.
Do you mean English High School of Boston? I can see nothing I'd call contact details there. In any case, an isolated example does not define the policy which, as I've already explained, is spelt out at What Wikipedia is not. In short, Wikipedia is not a directory. Wikipedia is not the white pages. Wikipedia is not the yellow pages. Street addresses and phone numbers should not be included. The external link provides more than adequate contact information.
Do you really think I've changed the article so much that there's little left? I've removed some statements of the obvious, like 'it offers a range of subjects' and some trivial information that might be worth mentioning in a school newsletter, but not an encyclopedia article. Have you read WikiProject Schools which lists recommended content for schools articles? Gimboid13 11:36, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi Jane. I agree that the history of the school, including name changes, is relevant but the number of lockers and uniform changes are really a bit too trivial for an encyclopedia article. Most school articles have the town or suburb in which the school is located. By contact information I mean street addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. If you were wanting to contact the school you'd go to the phone book or other directory, not an encyclopedia. The article should be written for a worldwide audience, not just people wanting to ring them up or drop in. It needs to describe what makes the school notable, like the sort of information at WikiProject Schools. That said, I'm happy enough to leave the article alone for a couple of weeks. [edit] Proposed deletion notice

[edit] Bradley Anderson

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Bradley Anderson, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Seraphimblade 05:50, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed deletions

While it is not required, it is generally considered courteous to state why you're contesting a proposed deletion, like the one you contested at Bradley Anderson. Also, while anyone may remove a proposed deletion tag at any time, it is not acceptable to remove maintenance tags (such as a hoax tag) without addressing the concerns of the author who placed them, and doing so may be seen as vandalism. Seraphimblade Talk to me Please review me! 18:44, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked

I find it likely that you and User:Bradles 01 are either one and the same or at least connected, and both of you appear to be engaged in hoaxing. I have blocked both accounts pending clarification. Guy (Help!) 19:36, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
