Thanks for the compliment on medieval literature (several contributed to it, but I wrote the bulk of the original article, so I feel thanked, at least). Hi, Jen: greetings from another teenage Catholic Latinist! Saw your question on Talk:Pope Benedict XVI, and thought I'd post here in case you're not actively watching that article. Basically, pp is just an abbreviation for pope in Latin. It's not actually part of his name. You've probably seen it in a pope's signature, though: that's where the abbrivation is usually seen. Please note that I have disputed the neutrality of this article. Jguk reverted my NPOV template, claiming that the NPOV dispute is just a personal campaign of one person. Whig 09:18, 15 May 2005 (UTC)

On the referendum regarding styles you stated that a straight up yes or no vote on the policy would be the ideal way of deciding. You voted no on that exact vote. That referendum is a yes or no vote on the proposed style policy. You also cited 53% not being a concensus; that survey had nothing to do with the referendum, beyond choosing which option would be put up to try and achieve concensus.

I understand that many people do not understand what the results of that survey meant, so I shall explain it: It meant that 53% of people preferred alternative 3 to alternative 1. However, this does not mean 47% of people disapprove of alternative 3; this means that they liked another alternative better, or equally as well. This means that the first survey cannot show whether or not there is concensus on alternative 3, because we don't know what percentage of people approve of alternative 3. 100% could, in theory, approve of alternative 3, or maybe 0% could; maybe alternative 3 was the best of a bunch of bad choices.

The referendum is a straight up or down vote on what the policy of Wikipedia should be on styles, and it frustrates me that people are not understanding this because a few users are obfusicating the issue. This is not an attempt to say that 53% of Wikipedians is a concensus; this is an attempt to figure out how many Wikipedians consider alternative 3 to be good Wikipedia policy. • But you may want to bounce back and vote to preserve your work... by casting a vote for the current article name. The CopyEdit tag has been hanging around pending that outcome since about the 15th, perhaps the 13th. A Silly Matter, but caught up in a tribal conflict See: Wider War and your 'choice' of 'S' at the end certainly makes you an interested party (That's kind of how I got sucked in too! <G>). Just thought you should know! (At least it's a 'Final Vote' this time, but what happens if the third choice (Compromise, see the above talk using the TOC) to the various singular or plural terms is something no one has addressed. Since the Second Choice now has a clear majority, I'd guess we'd stay with the plural... but Wikiways are at times mysterious! <G>

• I'd suggest that worrying about the 'S' is the opposite of what is likely to happen. Look at the vote and the section under it above your talk post.
  • The place in the article I thought most needed attention was in the history section to make all the technical 'links' have enough text padding to dumb the paragraphs down so that all the buzz word make sense to the casual reader, not just to the 'Far East Studies cognizatti' (Which being Polish, of an American persuasion, I am decidedly not!). That will need some careful cross reading on a second and third window to be made understandable, if you want my own humble POV and advice. (You asked, sortof). <G> Hope that helps. I've been avoiding that copyedit since I tried one night and it blew up on me with the move vote and parlimentary tricks, etc.
• You can take a quick run through the discourse on the vote, without bothering any links (Assume they were proven), and get the gist of the issue. Hmmmmm Major Decisions Today... Hi Jen! Long time, no see — so Happy Birthday!!!! as well (Tho' at my age, I don't want reminded of 'em!!!)

• Need a little favor — see article Glaciation history, where I was trying to apply the proper english grammer terms to my attempt to clarify the nature of the word as noun/verb/adjective(?)/adverb(?) (The point being I've been out of school so long, I'm not familiar (esp. not sure) enough with which useage actually constitutes which english term.) (Worse, in all honesty, I'm not sure I care either — but do stubbornly want things to be 'correct'!!! <g>)
• So as a better grammarian, can you check and alter my well intended edit as is appropriate to satisfy the strictest English Professor out there? (I regretably, AP'd past most of them on my science/technical track... wish at times I hadn't!)
• Also, before sealing this message, I ended up doing a major accidental edit on the article Snowball Earth, which would probably benifit much from a copyedit read over!
• Would Much Appreciate It! (Checking my watchlist the other night, I noticed some copyedit activity on a couple of my edits of a month back that are somewhat embarrasing — mostly misspellings, but embarrasing in retrospect regardless (I need a good spell checker and need to look into another brower since IE6 hasn't got one!) — if you lack a wiki-project at any given moment, you can probably just check my far flung changes (contributions list=Click_Here) for typos and misspellings and do us all a favor! I need a keeper! JUST ASK MY WIFE! <g>)

Hello again, I have (unilatterly) taken away the 'assembly' idea, as per my reasons at that edit summary and per Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Charter. I have left the admin general, as some leadership is good. Now, all you have to do is be a member to establish consensus, the whole assembly idea is gone. Also, I have added an advisory committee, of four members, with limited power besides watching over the admin general and making sure he doesn't do anything stupid. Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

If polishing something good to a higher state is of interest to you, you might want to take a look at PR (New yesterday) and/or my talk (iirc, his name is Alfonso or something close to that) to follow his 'Sig' back to his talk and introduce yourself with my stamp of approval. Heck, you can cross up your spanish with some Porteugese, if nothing else. (Me wife is very fluent in SP. and can follow P. if they speak slow enough. Might be fun for your (speaking in) tounge(s)!)

I don't see much point in linking dates, but I do because that's what everyone else does and I suppose it's useful if you want to get context... or something.

I think it's useful for context, but also because (in the current system) it's the only way to maintain user preferences for date display. If you do "March 16, 2006" it will display exactly that way; if you do "[[March 16]], [[2006]]" I can tell Wikipedia that I prefer the link to be displayed to me as "16 March 2006" (and save a lot of argument on date order, since many countries have their own preferences).

Perhaps you've found out about this since writing your user page or perhaps you don't find the arguments all that convincing; in any case, since I prefer the "DD MMMM YYYY" ordering, I really tend to notice unlinked dates, because it means they display differently than linked ones. - Cafemusique 11:43, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
