Johnny Chase
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Johnny Chase is a fictional hacker featured in a 2003 advertising campaign for the T-Mobile Sidekick communication device. The character and campaign were created by Lazaro Cangas & Devon Harris of "Publicis in the West" advertising agency.
The campaign consisted of 2, 30-second TV commercials directed by anime director Itsuro Kawasaki, (Production IG: creators of Ghost in the Shell) and a series of 6 webisodes, created using a combination of Traditional and Flash animation techniques. The anime commercials were created with a team of over 100 hundred people in Japan. The Fash counter parts were created internally at Publicis in the West with a 5 person team. The plot featured a hacker being chased by an evil corporate empire, while using the features of the Sidekick to aid his escape.
In real life, the Sidekick gained a closer association with hacking when the contents of the account Sidekick spokesmodel Paris Hilton were exposed in 2005.
