Joan E. Mattis (aka Joni Mattis) (born 28 November 1938 in Chicago, died 4 September 1999) was an American model best known for her work in Playboy magazine. She was its Playmate of the Month for its November 1960 issue.
During her Playboy photo session, Joni refused to disrobe, making her (according to her) the least popular Playmate in the history of the magazine. She only received one letter in response to her pictorial, and it was from a clergyman who suggested that she find another line of work.
For a short time, Joni was Hugh Hefner's lover, and remained friendly with him after their romance ended. She held positions of increasing responsibility with Playboy Enterprises, from Playboy Club Bunny to talent co-ordinator for Playboy's Penthouse to being Hefner's social secretary at the Playboy Mansion West.
Joni died of cancer on 4 September 1999.
