Some of the process tools/concepts are listed below. These defintions are from "The memory jogger" provided as part of the QUALITY class from the ESI course.
- Cause and Effect Diagram (a.k.a Fishbone diagram or Ishikawa diagram) : To allow a team to identify, explore and graphically display in increasing detail, all the possible causes realted to a problem or condition to discover its root causes. Visio has a template for this.
- Control Charts - to monitor, control and improve process performance over time by studying variation and its source
- Pareto Chart - to focus efforts on the problems that offer the greatest potential for improvement by showing their relative frequency or size in a descending graph.
- Scatter Diagram - to study and identify the possible relationship between the changes observed in two differrent sets iof variables.
- Run Charts - to study observed data (a performance measure of a process) for trends or patterns over a specified period of time.
- Histogram - to summarize data from a process that has been collected over a period of time and graphically present its frequency distribution in bar form.
- Flowcharts - to identify the actual flow or sequence of events in a process.
