Municipalities and townships of Logan County

Although much of Lake Township is occupied by the city of Bellefontaine, farms are found in the northern region of the township.

Lake Township is one of seventeen townships in Logan County, Ohio, United States. It is located roughly in the center of the county. The city of Bellefontaine lies almost entirely within Lake Township. The 2000 U.S. Census found 12,492 people in the township, making it the largest in population in Logan County.

It borders or touches the following other townships and municipalities:

Liberty Township, on the south;
Harrison Township, on the west;
McArthur Township, on the north;
Rushcreek Township, on the northeast;
Jefferson Township, on the east

Highways in Lake Township include U.S. Routes 33 and 68, and State Routes 47 and 540.

Other Ohio counties with a Lake Township include Ashland County, Stark County, and Wood County.

Lake Township was formed in 1811 from Zane Township.

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township clerk, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the clerkship or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.
