Municipalities and townships of Logan County

Liberty Township is one of seventeen townships in Logan County, Ohio, United States. It is located in the southern portion of the county. The village of West Liberty lies almost entirely within Liberty Township, along with portions of the city of Bellefontaine. The 2000 U.S. Census found 3,126 people living in the township.

It borders or touches the following other townships and municipalities:

Salem Township, Champaign County, on the south;
Harrison Township, Champaign County, on the southwest;
Union Township, on the west;
Harrison Township, on the northwest;
Lake Township, on the north;
Jefferson Township, on the northeast;
Monroe Township, on the east

U.S. Route 68 is the most important highway in Liberty Township. Other significant highways in the township include State Routes 245 and 508.

Liberty Township was formed in 1832 from Union Township. It is one of twenty-five Liberty Townships in Ohio.

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township clerk, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the clerkship or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.
