Law of Four
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Law of Four belongs to a group of metaphysical laws spoken of by followers of G.I. Gurdjieff. It was noted in P.D. Ouspensky's book In Search of the Miraculous that Gurdjieff referred to the Law of Three as the law of force, while the Law of Four referred to the law of matter, thus the Law of Four relates to the four elements of matter. Also, some of the adherents of his philosophy believe the indications of a fourfold law could be found in his references to four types of dance movements and four levels of consciousness.
[edit] Four states of consciousness
1. Sleep — State of sleep and dreaming. In this state a person's centers have become disconnected.
2. Waking Sleep — A state of hypnosis (which is considered being awake by modern science). The vast majority of adult humans reside in this state during their waking hours.
3. Self-Remembering or Self-Consciousness — A state where the person is aware of himself as well as outside factors.
4. Objective Consciousness — Highest level of consciousness.
