[edit] Wrecking Crew

[edit] Foreman Spike
Foreman Spike is one of Mario's first ever foes. First appearing in Wrecking Crew, this tough construction worker attempts to halt Mario's progress by walking around the backside of the level and trying to hammer down walls Mario is in front of, in order to make Mario fall down. Spike's motives for doing this are unknown - it can be assumed, however, that he wants to demolish the building himself to earn all the money for doing so, without having to share it. In his attempts to foil Mario's plans, he employs the help of Gotcha Wrenches and Eggplant Men (See below).
Foreman Spike makes a return in Wrecking Crew '98, released 13 years after the original game. Now beardless, Spike has made a pact with Bowser, to try and stop Mario from demolishing various skyscrapers Bowser has built across the land. Gotcha Wrench and Eggplant Man return as well. Foreman Spike is the second-last normal opponent you face, right before Bowser.
Spike's last appearance is in an obscure Japanese Game Boy Color game called Mobile Golf. In this game, which is somewhat of a sequel to the Mario Golf game released for the system earlier, Spike is one of a multitude of selectable golfers to play as. In this game, Spike looks more like his original appearance, sporting a beard.
Many believe that the character of Spike was the basis for Wario, though this can be disproven by the fact Spike has appeared twice since Wario was created. Spike's Wrecking Crew '98 design bears some resemblance to Waluigi.

[edit] Gotcha Wrench
Gotcha Wrenches are living wrenches, seeking to hinder Mario's process in demolishing the building. There are two variants of Gotcha Wrench: Gotcha Wrench Jr. is a red variant, which walks quite slowly compared to its purple-colored version, which is simply called Gotcha Wrench.
The purple Gotcha Wrench also appears in Wrecking Crew '98, as the 3rd normal opponent you face.

[edit] Eggplant Man
Eggplant Men are living eggplants, which follow a predictable pattern: they continuously walk straight, stopping only to turn around if they hit a dead end, or to climb up/down ladders if they come across any. They have been employed by Foreman Spike to hinder Mario's progress in Wrecking Crew.
An Eggplant Man appears in Wrecking Crew '98 as the first normal opponent you face.
Eggplant Men seem to be the enemies most associated with Wrecking Crew, as one of them appeared as a collectable trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Another Eggplant Man makes a cameo appearance in the game Chibi-Robo!, although he is called "Eggplant Kid" in the game.

[edit] Onigiri
Onigiri is perhaps the oddest enemy in any Mario game in existence. It is, as its name implies, a living Japanese Onigiri (rice ball) snack. It can float through the air, and jump very high. When it gets upset, it is prone to exploding. Onigiri is the first secret opponent you encounter.

[edit] Onnanoko
Onnanoko is (apparently) the spirit of a dead girl, which still roams around on this planet. She asks Mario for a friendly match, after which she gets a halo and floats up into the sky. She is the second secret opponent you encounter.

[edit] Oyazi
Oyazi is an old carpenter, who challenges Mario to a match once he walks up to him. Mario battling a carpenter might be a throwback to the original Donkey Kong game, where Mario was a carpenter himself. Oyazi is the third secret opponent you encounter.

[edit] Dogu
Dogu is an ancient clay robot, which Mario stumbles across after beating Oyazi (see above). Dogu suddenly activates and attacks Mario. After beating Dogu, he explodes into a load of clay pieces. Dogu is the fourth and last secret opponent you can encounter. There are some enemies near the end of the game StarTropics that bear a slight resemblance to Dogu. Dogu's name literally means "clay figure".
