Discussions no longer relevant to the active maintenance of this page have moved to a discussion archive subpage. Kolano 02:39, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sorting
I added classes to make the list tables sortable. Some thoughts on improvements would be...
- Add a set of region flag templates that include the necessary hidden text making region flags sortable. I've done this by hand for the numeric and A sections as a test, but a template to add them automatically might be nice.
- A full page version of this list without the alphabetic breaks would allow nicer sorting. I'm not sure if there is anyway to do that within one page and maintain the section edits, or in 2 and keep the 2 pages in sync.

[edit] Cover Art
Would it be appropriate to include thumbnails of the CD jacket covers as part of this list. Most titles already seem to have them available in Wikipedia.
Cover | Title | Year | Developer | Publisher | Regions released |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
102 Dalmatians Puppies to the Rescue | 2000 | Crystal Dynamics | Eidos Interactive |
Though I think this is pleasing, and helpful for game identification, after seeing the ruckus over on the List of Virtual Boy games page surrounding this it may be appropriate to drop this topic. Kolano 02:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Handling of Games with Multiple Names
There are a number of games with varying names depending on their region. Their name variations place them at different alphabetic locations in the list so listing them as a single item seems problematic, but listing them separately seems to go against having a single line per game.
We seem to had three methods of handling this in the page...
- "Jet Grind Radio (USA) / Jet Set Radio (ALL OTHER)": One line per game, regions clearly indicated, possible ordering issues for secondary names
- "AeroWings 2 Airstrike / Aero Dancing F: Tsubasa's First Flight" One line per game, regions vague, possible ordering issues for secondary names (now revised as in going quakers to better capture multiple Aero Dancing F releases in Japan)
- "Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers" / "Donald Duck: Quack Attack" Separate line per game name, regions clearly indicated, all names at expected location
There is some similar discussion on the main "List of Games" discussion, but no clear decision around how to handle. Kolano 02:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
One other thing to consider here is that games do not always share release dates between regions. Some way to clearly indicate that would be good. Kolano 06:13, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Non-Games/Unreleased games?
The Dreamcast had a few titles that would not be classified as "games". For instance:
- Web Browsers:"Broadband Passport Web Browser"
- Video Players: "Dreamcast VCD Player"
- Email App: Hello Kitty: Otonaru Mail (へーロキティ音なるメール)
- Magazine Pack-in Disks: Dreamon 1-22
- Various Bleamcast titles
Should these be included on this list? Kolano 02:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- In my opinion they don't really belong. And it's also unlikely they'll ever have articles. Anyone else have a take? --SubSeven 03:47, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- To my thinking it comes down to if this is a list of "games" or a list of "titles". Having a complete list of titles seems like a good idea, even if this isn't it.Kolano 04:38, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Also there are a number of canceled games excluded from this list. A few of these have seen seen the light of day, though not through "official" channels. Kolano 04:28, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Japanese Titles
It would appear that someone, primarily from the address 24.66.94.140, has been systematically removing non-US releases from this list. If someone could give some explanation/justification, it would be appreciated. Otherwise, I will look into it more and likely revert the changes. AgentIrons 19:07, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- Since no-one justified the removals yet, I think it should be OK to re-add the non-US games to the list. Darkstar 09:32, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
I have added a near complete set of Kanji titles for Japanese games. Though this should be an English language resource, having the Kanji helps clearly identify Japaneses titles prevent duplication of games with multiple English translations of their name. Though certain Japanese releases simply have English names, there are a few Japanese releases I suspect have Kanji titles that I have thus far been unable to find. Investigation into filling these gaps would be appreciated. To help with this heres a list of titles missing Kanji, and those confirmed as not having Kanji titles, please update as we make progress on this:

[edit] Developer / Publisher Cleanup
There are a few issues with developer/publisher links currently:
- Some do not lead directly to the developer/publisher, but rather various incorrect or splash pages.
- The same company is sometime represented under various names across the page
- Regional company variants are not handled consistently (i.e. Sega of Japan/Sega of America, Inc. vs Sega)
Reviewing these links and updating them is in order. Kolano 04:48, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] WP:VG Assessment
- Don't reference Google image search. Reference individual game covers.
- Get rid of the HUGE amount of red links - and no, don't go and create stub articles. Basically, every red link will need a non-list (i.e.: a page specifically about the game, like a review by a notable gaming website) reference stating the notability for inclusion - the notability for games already on Wikipedia (and thus have a 'blue link') should be established on the article about the respective games (not here). Wikipedia doesn't list every silly flash game for Windows, so a list as this should be kept to the at least somewhat popular titles -> Listcruft.
- Kept start, High.
