Status and community news
As of Saturday, 21 October 2006, the Russian language Wikipedia contained about 112,000 articles. Of these, 117 articles (approximately 1 in 957) are considered избранными (selected, the Russian Wikipedia equivalent of featured articles). The latest three additions to the list of featured articles are: Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Super Nintendo Entertainment System), Clara Bow (Клара Боу) and Yevfimy Putyatin (Евфимий Васильевич Путятин).
The Russian language Wikipedia has no equivalent of featured pictures page in the English or Exzellente Bilder in the German Wikipedia yet.

As of 21 October 2006, 39 users of the Russian Wikipedia are administrators. This makes 0.13% of users out of a total number of 29,541 registered users.
RfA and RfB reform
In September 2006 bureaucrat Drbug speedily closed Obersachse's request for bureaucratship stating that he is not ready to promote without a formal RfB policy. After two concurrent proposals were heavily criticized, community carried the approval poll about details of RfA and RfB process. As a result, vote was extended from one week to two, and section for neutral vote has been removed (all neutral opinions should go to the general discussion section and will be taken into account only if consensus is unclear). Also, all elector should have at least 100 edits and 3 months of editing experience.
Media coverage
On November, 4 Russian news site polit.ru published a detailed article about the meetup held October, 15 in St. Petersburg and about Wikipedia in general. In addition to such achievements as openness, great number of articles and consensus-based decision making this article also mentioned some problems: openness to vandals and POV-pushers, problems with copyright, verifiability and number of useless stubs. Article concludes with extremely positive statement that Wikipedia de facto becomes a fulcrum to move intellectual world.
