[edit] Siege of Port Arthur
I feel that your major rewrite of Siege of Port Arthur in August 2006 too heavily borrows from battlefieldanomalies.com. I have blanked the latest version and restored the version from 25 July 2006 with some edits. I have temporarily moved the your version to User:MChew/Siege of Port Arthur -- Petri Krohn 23:48, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- I think it now passes the originality test, feel free to move the material to Siege of Port Arthur. I made a small change to your version; I moved Graham J. Morrises text to "References". -- Petri Krohn 14:42, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Macrons
Thanks for your work on several of the Japanese biography pages. One comment, though. In general, macrons inside category links should be avoided (See Wikipedia:Categorization#Category_sorting). An Ō would appear at the end, after the XYZ, and not between N and P where it should be. So, in categories, we need to just use the non-macron version. Neier 14:18, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Japanese people from X Prefecture
That's a good point, regarding the province/domain and present-day prefecture. Since there are many provinces which span multiple prefectures (and vice versa), maybe it makes sense to make a new split at Category:Japanese people, and create Category:Japanese people by historical province or something like that. Then, people could be sorted by their historical province (Satsuma) and their present-day prefecture (Kagoshima), and we wouldn't have any conflict with the categorization guidelines. What do you think about that? Is there any reason why Category:People from Satsuma Domain needs to be a subcategory of Category:People from Kagoshima Prefecture?
As for wading through cities to find someone, I couldn't agree more. My proposal here is a bandaid; but, if there was a suggestion to eliminate the local city/town categories, I would support it in a heartbeat. (not just people, but structures, stations, etc). I don't think it stands much of a chance, which is why I haven't proposed it myself. But, if it reached consensus, then fixing things would not take long for a bot. Neier 23:23, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
I initiated a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Japan#categories and people (mostly) if you would like to make any comments. Neier 09:41, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi, you must have known me.
As of Toranomon Incident, you had better describe about the father of Namba Daisuke after the incident. That is the way of Japanese aristocracy at that time.--Panpulha 10:47, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough - would "Nth Division (Imperial Japanese Army) be an acceptable solution? The parenthetical disambiguation is preferred, and I would like to avoid using initialisms such as "IJA". Carom 05:09, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Oyama Iwao
Could you please expand on your edit summary of
- moved Ōyama Iwao to Oyama Iwao: Macrons not to be used in titles ?
in this edit? The WP:MOS-JA no longer makes any distinction between titles and the text of the article when it comes to macrons. Thanks. Neier 21:34, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
-
- I agree, it should not have been moved back. The concern you identify about being difficult to find is precisely what redirects are for (and a redirect was created automatically when I moved the article to the macron version of the title). A user will have no trouble finding this article just because the title contains macrons, even if it is the first letter.-Jefu 01:00, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- As an example, if you go to Category:Japanese people, you will note that two names are macroned. Ōno Kurobei and Ōtori Keisuke. Non-macronned Ono Kurobei results in a dead link, and a wikipedia search for Ono Kurobei reveals no results. Non-macronned Otori Keisuke only because the current macronned page is a re-direct from the original non-macroned page. Therefore, anyone not familiar with the Japanese language and/or unfamiliar/unable to use macrons in their search will not find Ōno Kurobei. This is why I believe that macrons should be eliminated from the title as well as from the categorization. The alternative is to re-direct every macronned title from a non-macronned version, which exactly what User:Jefu has done, although many users will either not be so diligent, or else will not go to the extra trouble when they create a new article involving a macronned title. If you feel strongly about moving the title of Oyama Iwao back to Ōyama Iwao, I have no objections, but feel that some policy or consensus should be reached for consistency. Although we are in disagreement on the title, WP:MOS-JA is quite clear when in comes to use of macrons in categories, as User:Neier has once kindly pointed out to me. --MChew 01:14, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Regarding your hidden comment in Kitahara Hakushū, I was following Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies)#Subsequent_uses_of_names. If there is a consensus on Wikipedia to use the given name in this situation, please point me to where it is documented. Ben Ram 11:26, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for creating article on Arishima Ikuma. Just for your information, I have nominated a DYK on this article, by having the following hook.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Gomi Kosuke.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Gomi Kosuke.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Tellyaddict 14:30, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
