Midpoint was a /Pop-Punk/Emo band which made its roots in Calgary, Alberta that formed in 1998.

[edit] Early years
With their inception as a three piece group, Shand, Tyler, and Marek left their homes in rural Alberta for Calgary in 1998. After meeting Colin, the foursome soon started jamming and formulating their sound. Their initial rehearsals went surprisingly well, and the band was soon playing weekly shows in venues across Alberta. Moving quickly through the motions of being a young, inexperienced band, the newly dubbed Midpoint was drawing lots of attention in the Calgary scene. Midpoint recorded a three song demo at Calgary based Sundae Sound Studios. This three song cut earned them a full length opportunity with Lameass Records, which was recorded shorty after in British Columbia which followed by a cross Canada tour, playing over 50 gigs in 2 months.

In 2002 Marek, the original guitar player for Midpoint trade his guitar to play bass for a local act known as Deville. Faced with the reality of losing a member, Midpoint pressed onwards as a three piece unit but it soon became clear something was missing. Jay Frydman, who performed in other Calgary bands answered an online ad for a guitar player with Midpoint. After several jam sessions it was clear Jay was made for Midpoint.
With the new re-energized line-up, Midpoint focused themselves on their songwriting and producing another LP. Within months of acquiring Jay, Midpoint was picked to play the home date of the 2002 Vans Warped Tour.
The next 4 months were spent recording alongside established engineer Brad Hawkins. The new LP "Shutup, That's Why" was released on Second Best Records in February 2003.
Midpoint, being a band that is strong in their self promotion, has dedicated themselves to the DIY mantra. You can often find them handing out flyers, postering for their shows, and even going so far as to burn hundreds of sampler cds to give out wherever and whenever they can. They book all of their shows, maintain a high-quality website, design and pay for their merch (T-shirts, hoodies, stickers, etc), advertise, and the list goes on. Midpoint is a fully independent and self-sufficient band.
Midpoint went back into the studio working alongside produced and ex-drummer of Chixdiggit Dave Alcock. Midpoint recorded 4 songs which appeared on the 4 band split "Radio Songs?" on Triple Threat Records. Other bands on the split included Over it, Five Days Off and National Product.
Nearly 8 months after the release Midpoint self financed a music video for the song "Perfecting The Art Of Indifference" which aired on Much Music. Shortly after the release of the video the band announced officially it was breaking up. Quoted from the website:
"So Long And Thanks For All The Brews May 31, 2005, 1:35 pm Well everyone it is official. Midpoint is breaking up. There are no real reasons why, we just don't have enough time to dedicate to the band to make things really happen. We want to thank everyone that ever showed up to a gig, bought merch from us, got us a show, played with us in another band, linked us on their website, liked our music and supported us. We can't say how much it means to us that over the years we gained many fans, lots of which turned into good friends. I would name names but the list would go on forever. We hope you had as much fun listening to our music as we did making it. Stop by the forums and say goodbye. We are in the works of planning a final last show and more details will come of that soon."
They have yet to play their last show.
