[edit] CIA connection
If anyone can find the magazine article that mentioned the CIA use of The Prisoner game as a training tool (it came out around 1983-84) and add a citation, I'd be most grateful. It's a legitimate piece of information, but the source is going on a quarter century old. 23skidoo 20:56, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- Fortunately, my computer magazine collection goes back more than 20 years, and I found an article about Prisoner 2 being used by the CIA. Applegamer 03:15, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Well done! You have truly lived up to your username! I think I recall reading that the first Prisoner was also used thusly, but I'll settle for a source affirming that one of the games was used! 23skidoo 03:39, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Prisoner 2 not as successful?
I have a number of issues with the assertion "Released near the end of the Apple II's dominance of home computers, it was not as widely successful as the first game". The Prisoner was released in 1980, and Prisoner 2 was released just two years later -- but Apple remained a gaming platform until about 1990, so I don't see how Prisoner 2's release date meant that there were fewer computer for it to run on. Also, Prisoner 2 was ported to several other platforms, but the original was not. Finally, The Prisoner was released in the ziplog bag and photocopied documenation era of Apple games, with few mags to advertise in, but Prisoner 2 was released at the beginning of the box era, when games were a big more marketing savvy. Hard to see any basis for the above assertion. Applegamer 23:57, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- I just copied that over from the original Prisoner article. I can't recall if I wrote that or not ... I don't recall doing so. I don't recall Prisoner 2 being a huge success, but if you think the information is incorrect, please remove it. (IMO Prisoner 1 is the much better game, but that's just me). Incidentally, considering that Prisoner 2 is the same game as Prisoner 1, just with some revisions and improved graphics, should we bother giving it its own article, or should we just add it on to this one? The title suggests its a sequel, but it really isn't. 23skidoo 07:07, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- For now, I suggest putting Prisoner 2 info into the same article as The Prisoner (computer game), until such time that specific information about Prisoner 2 reaches a critical mass meriting its own article. Acting on my own suggestion, I split this article up into additional sections and created a Prisoner 2 article that's a redirect to this article. Applegamer 19:57, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- Looks good, however you don't have to wikilink the Prisoner 2 title as that just leads to the redirect page, which comes back to this one (we're not supposed to have self-referencing wikilinks). 23skidoo 04:19, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
