[edit] Plot Summary
At a museum, Catwoman is sneaking in to steal a jewel-statue of Ra when the Penguin and his kabuki aides make their own entrance. Catwoman starts vamping him and he reveals the statue is one of a pair and he wants her to help her steal the item he really wants so he'll give her both cat statues.
Yin shows up at the museum and investigates, noticing the Batman. She calls off her men to let him through and he notices a bit of an Eastern European plant. Batman figures out Catwoman is after the Ra statues, the Penguin is involved, and they've teamed up. On an abandoned freighter, Catwoman and Penguin are planning their break-in and getting closer, much to the dismay of the Penguin's jealous assistants who leave. But the Catwoman is secretly planning to get everything. At another museum, the Penguin's trained birds take out the security systems and the guard while Catwoman and Penguin sneak in and grab the statue. Penguin gives her the statue but the Batman makes his entrance. The two of them team up against him and Catwoman takes the Batman out while Penguin grabs both statues, double-crossing Catwoman with the help of his assistants. They take out Catwoman and leave her manacled to Batman, then set off the alarms. Batman tries to pick the lock, setting off a timed explosive.
Batman stops the countdown at 01 and they escape as the police close in. the two of them are forced to cooperate until they get the key from Penguin while Yin and the police close in. They escape in the Batmobile but the police spot Catwoman with the Batman. Yin wonders who is working with her and signals Batman, while he and Catwoman go to the freighter, and then she gets word Batman and Catwoman were "together." They find the Penguin's notes revealing the two jewels can harness the power of the sun and plans to blackmail the city. From a light house, he uses the jewels to destroy the police station's statue to show he means business. Yin brings Batman up to speed, trusting him despite the fact she knows he's with Catwoman, and he figures out the lighthouse is the only location he could be at. They ascend the tower from the outside but the Penguin's birds severe their grapple-ropes while one of the Kabuki start climbing up after them.
Batman swings Catwoman up so she can latch on with her whip as his rope is broken - she pulls him up and he uses a sonic scrambler to drive off the birds. Both Kabuki close in - they send one flying off the edge and knock out the other. Then Batman and Catwoman confront Penguin but he threatens to destroys the children's hospital if they don't back off. Batman knocks him out but he activates the blast sequence - Catwoman grabs one of the jewels with the whip, causing the blast to go wide and knocking out Penguin. They get the key from him and free themselves, and Catwoman tries to escape but the Penguin stops her and as they fight, Batman handcuffs them together. [edit] Trivia
The episode shares similarities to Tim Burton's 1992 hit, Batman Returns:
- The episode title is a play on the movie's tagline, "The Bat, The Cat, and The Penguin".
- The teaming of The Penguin and Catwoman, and The Penguin's eventual betrayal.
- Catwoman's musical cues are similar to her theme song in the movie.
- Catwoman carries her whip around her waist that hangs like a tail, like in the movie. It should be noted, however, she does this in the episodes she appears in.
- Outside of the Gotham PD Office is a statue of a police officer (possibly a reference to Ethan Bennet, despite Rojas's dislike for Bennett). The statue was never seen in season 1, and was destroyed by penguin at the episode's ending.
