From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Universal Studios Home Entertainment (formerly Universal Studios Home Video or MCA/Universal Home Video) is a home video company founded in 1979. It is a division of Universal Studios. It was originally known as MCA Videocassette, Inc. in 1980, when films including Jaws, Jaws 2, and 1941 were released. In 1983, MCA Videocassette became MCA Home Video, which was also used for Universal's laserdisc films. In 1990, it became MCA/Universal Home Video for the 75th anniversary of Universal.
In the Netherlands, they distribute most DVDs of films released theatrically by Independent Films. They also distribute Alliance Atlantis DVD titles in Canada, most of the Republic Pictures theatrical library in the UK, and most of the Carolco Pictures library in Australia and Brazil.
This company was the video distributor for DreamWorks titles until DreamWorks was sold to Paramount/Viacom in 2005, at which point Paramount took over distribution.
