[edit] Welcome to Novels WikiProject
Hi, and welcome to the Novels WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to fiction books often referred to as "Novels".
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated quite regularly. You can watch it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WikiProject_Novels_announcements}} there.
While you are updating your userpage, don't forget our userbox {{User WikiProject Novels}}. - The project has a monthly newsletter; it will normally be delivered as a link, but other methods are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Starting some new articles? Our article structure guidelines / template outlines some things to include.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the members, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 10:57, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] About question posted to User:Kevinalewis
Hi! I know that the question you asked about how to edit a novel article away from the eyes of the public was addressed to Kevinalewis and not me, but I just saw your question and thought I'd answer because I've done the same thing you want to do before.
If you want to create your own version of an article without tampering with the actual article, you can create your own subpage. Just create a new page at User:Voshvoshka/titleofpage (you can link to that page on your main page by [[/titleofpage]] for convenience), copy the contents of the article into the same page, and edit to your heart's content. When finished, you can simply copy the contents of your subpage into the actual article's edit page. One edit, little mess!
I hope you continue on making contributions to WikiProject Novels. We need all the helping hands we can get. ;-) Breed Zona 06:24, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Is one question has been answered quite well above. The other about references and footnotes. Things are a little ambiguous. but whatever you call them there is clearly a difference between 'footnotes' and 'references'. The 'footnotes' do two things, firstly a short note to expand on the subject in the article but removed to make the main text read more smoothly, and secondly citations ideally down to specific page numbers and lines and paragraphs etc. The 'references' (or sometimes 'bibliography' - which traditionally implies print media) are a list of sources used without linking the source to a particular section of the text and often "without" giving detail down to specific pages. Confussion comes when people somethimes use 'notes', external links, 'references' 'bibliography', footnotes, endnotes, 'citations' etc rather interchangably. Does that help. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:47, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
