The Web Analytics Association was started in the spring of 2003. Founding members were Bryan Eisenberg of Future Now, Jim Sterne of the eMetrics Summit and Andrew Edwards of Technology Leaders. Founding sponsors were Coremetrics, IBM, Nedstat, Omniture, WebTrends, WebSideStory, and Visual Sciences (now part of WebSideStory). The stated goals of the organization is to gather and disseminate knowledge, to promote the value of the web analytics discipline, to create a common web analytics language, and help each member achieve his or her professional goals.
Current board members include Sterne and Eisenberg as well as Andrea Hadley, Chris D'Alessandro, Richard Foley, Seth Romanow, Greg Drew, A. Clint Ivy, and Shubhra Srivastava.
The WAA has a Web Analysts educational program, in conjunction with the University of British Columbia. It is the only accreditation program for web analysts at this time. In addition, the WAA held their first training day in October 2006, and has announced plans to have more training days both in the US and in Europe.
