YSFlight
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
YSFlight is a freeware flight simulator created by Soji Yamakawa.
Ysflight is often criticised for its cartoony graphics and unrealistic handling. At the same time it allows you to choose from about 30 different pre-installed aircraft, ranging from the F-16 Fighting Falcon to the Concorde SST. You can dogfight AI aircraft, bomb enemy facilities, perform dazzling aerobatics, or just simply fly around. There are also hundreds of add-ons available, with aircraft, scenery, missions, and other things that add to the YSF experience.
YSF is also multiplayer. This means you can log on to a server and play around with your friends online. There are also fighter Squads, aerobatic Squads, and also virtual airlines that you can join, whichever one is your main interest.
YSF is always in constant development and new versions come out about twice a year, with new features every time. It is also pretty small in size (only 6mb, until add-ons are installed) and doesn't come with all the extra unneeded junk that a lot of other flight sims do. Over 4000 additional playable aircraft were created (including variations of existing ones) and over 100 extra maps were made.
Ysflight has a large fan community, partly because of the ability to make aircraft and maps. The Blue Impulse toolkit, which can be found on the official website, is the most commonly used program for making aircraft and buildings for maps. For maps, the YSflight Scenery Editor, which can also be found on the main site, is the only one used.
[edit] System Requirements
- Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
- Pentium 300 MHz or faster (500 MHz or faster is recommended).
- 6 MB of Hard Drive Space
- 64MB RAM or larger (128MB or larger is recommended).
- DirectX 3.0 or later.
- Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher (to read documentations)
A DirectX version can be found in the YSflight Test Version page on the main site. This, however, requires a fairly modern computer otherwise it will not run at all. This might be corrected once it is released, since it is still in development at the moment.
