From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Zisis Vryzas (born November 9, 1973 in Kavala) is a striker the Greek national team and Greek club Skoda Xanthi. Vryzas got his start at Greek sides Skoda Xanthi and PAOK before moving onto AC Perugia in Italy. He joined Torino in January 2006, after a disappointing experience with Fiorentina, where he was even unused for the entire first half of the 2005/2006 season.
Although not a prolific scorer, Vryzas' tenacious work ethic creates chances for his attacking partners while his aerial and passing skills his team to hold onto the ball. He was a starter in Greece's victorious Euro 2004 team, scoring a key goal, a fine chip over the keeper, in Greece's 2-1 loss to Russia, which sent the tournament underdogs into the quarterfinal.
Although currently still a regular participant in the Greece squad, he is being pushed hard for a spot in the lineup by experienced ex-Panathinaikos and current AEK frontman Nikos Lyberopoulos, as well as young stars Dimitris Papadopoulos and Dimitris Salpingidis of Panathinaikos.
