Hi there! As to the Croatian months - they are indeed a bit different from the Polish ones, but that is quite common among us Slavs to have similar names for different months. Their ethymology is mostly climatic and the sickle month (sierpień, srpanj, serpen and so on) falls on different periods. The same goes for other Slavic languages: Czech and Slovac name for October is říjen and it has the same ethymology as Polish wrzesień. It goes also for May (Polish maj is taken from Latin, while Czech květen sounds the same as Polish kwiecień - the month of flowers. Perhaps it would be interesting to add a table with all names of months in Slavic languages. What do you think? Halibutt 20:46, 24 cze 2004 (CEST)

Dobrze, tu chorwatsky miesiacy (suppose that's totally wrong, but never mind:-) January: siječanj (sijed=pale, white - in modern language only used for hair); February: veljača; March: ožujak; April: travanj (trava=grass); May: svibanj (compare: svitanje=zora= dawn); June: lipanj (what's that tree called in English?); July: srpanj; August: kolovoz (time of harvest, when the "carridges" (kola) are driving (voziti) in the crops); September: rujan(reddish); October: listopad (does this need an explanation??); November: studeni ("chilly one", this is the only one that is declinated as an adjective, not as a noun); December: prosinac. Serbian unfortunatly uses the Latin names (januar, februar, mart, april, maj, juni, juli, avgust, septembar, oktobar, novembar, decembar), as do Slovenian, Bulgarian, Russian... Dodałem kilka języków (ukraiński, kaszebści i srpski). Przydałaby się też jakaś tabelka, w której moglibyśmy zamieszczać etymologie. Tylko w jakich hasłach te tabelki potem umieścić? Halibutt 23:21, 26 cze 2004 (CEST)
