Atlas (Titan)

Atlas is a Titan in Greek mythology. He is the son of Iapetos. With the Oceanid Pleione his children are the Pleiades.
After the war against the Olympians he was punished to hold the heaven on the west side of the world. Later, mostly in modern times, he is shown holding the whole world on his shoulders. He was responsible for holding the world on his shoulders as a punishment from Zeus, for rebelling against the gods
