Bolus

In biology, a bolus , which came from the Latin word for "ball", is a ball-shaped living thing. In medicine, a bolus is a large amount of a drug given to patients to raise the blood level before treatment. A bolus' can also refer to a ball of food after it has been chewed. It passes down the oesophagus by peristalsis.
