National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam (NLF), was the name of a group of people in South Vietnam who fought against the government of South Vietnam and the United States during the Vietnam War. The group is known better in the United States as the Viet Cong or V.C. In the phonetic alphabet, V.C. is Victor Charlie. American soldiers fighting in Vietnam usually just called the NLF Charlie.
The group was made up of people from South and North Vietnam. Not all members of the NLF were fighting for communism. Some were fighting because of their dislike of the South Vietnam government.
Viet Cong forces fought using guerilla warfare. The actions of the NLF made it hard for the United States armed forces to win. Their actions helped to finally remove United States troops from Vietnam and stop the war.
