The 1979 World Sportscar Championship season was the 27th FIA World Championship for Makes. It was a series running under the Group 6, Group 5, and IMSA GTX formulas. These cars usually raced against other classes of cars, although none of these cars were included in the championship. It ran from February 3, 1979 to September 16, 1979, and was comprised of 9 races.
