1988 World Sportscar Championship season | |

The 1988 World Sportscar Championship season was the 36th FIA World Sports-Prototype Championship season. It was a series running under the Group C formula, running cars in two classes known as C1 and C2. An invitational GTP class was also run for IMSA-spec cars. It ran from March 6, 1988 to November 20, 1988, and was comprised of 11 races.

Points were awarded to the top 10 finishers in the following orders dependent on race distance:
- 24 hour races were scored 60-45-36-30-24-18-12-9-6-3
- 800-1000km races were scored 40-30-24-20-16-12-8-6-4-2
- 360km races were scored 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1
Exceptions included:
- Drivers failing to drive the car within a certain percentage of the laps in a race were not given points.
- Teams were only given points for their highest finishing car; any other team cars were merely skipped in the points standings. Points were still awarded to their drivers however.
- Neither driver nor teams scored points if they did not complete 90% of the winner's distance.
