The Los Angeles Kings showed great promise in the 2005-06 NHL season. During the off-season, they acquired centers Pavol Demitra and Jeremy Roenick to help solidify their offense, as well as goaltender Jason LaBarbera. But injuries plagued the team again, as they fell six points short of a playoff spot, causing them to miss out on the postseason for the third consecutive season. Problems late in the year led to the firing of head coach Andy Murray and general manager Dave Taylor. The Kings would head into the 2006 offseason looking to rebuild and try to get back to a playoff-caliber team.
