[edit] Welcome
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
Here are some other hints and tips:
- I would recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
- When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.
Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.
If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}}
on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.
Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD! --HughCharlesParker (talk - contribs) 10:17, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Removed content
It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities#do inanimate objects 'know' they are being watched?. Please be careful not to remove content from Wikipedia without a valid reason, which you should specify in the edit summary or on the article's talk page. Take a look at our welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. The Dark Side 02:17, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- The template was there because an IP user tried to remove those comments (see here). They were later restored by that same IP user, but User:Hipocrite added the template (see here). However, I do apologize for missing your two comments. --The Dark Side 02:39, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Removal of picture from Karl Pearson
You removed the only available picture of the Pearson memorial - I consider it highly relevant.
Please don't remove without discussing! (and why are you anonymous anyway? ....)

[edit] Message
You left me a message about removing content, but the link to the diff does not indicate I removed any (in fact is a diff of me adding content). Just FYI! The only "content" I recently removed was a bogus "archived" template and a question about why it had been added, which is common form for the reference desk (which is not an article, per se). --24.147.86.187 02:08, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm using a program called VandalProof to issue such warnings, and the warning and/or link was obviously issued linking to the wrong edit. There was an edit of yours that removed content, which is what the program detected, and is what that warning relates to.

[edit] "Removal of content"
OK, I'm sorry the program didn't link correctly, that's not exactly my fault.
As I said before, I didn't remove content. I removed a bogus template and a removed a question about said template. This sort of formatting is par for the course of the reference desk. You should not revert it. If someone really has a good reason for the template it is up to them to explain it. --24.147.86.187 02:28, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
The program identified that you removed a significant amount of text from the page (obviously the template code). If you are making more edits of this type in the future, please provide a clearer edit summary actually stating what was changed and why. This will help editors such as myself who have a long list of recent edits, and only a few seconds to make a decision about each one. :)

[edit] Please do not remove messages
Please do not remove you talk page messages especially critical ones without a very good reason. If you have one please leave it on my talk page --St.daniel 13:01, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- It's his (her?) talk page, and s/he can do as she pleases with it. I find it rather arrogant for a user to instruct another on what he or she can do on his or her talk page. Loomis 22:28, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

- Hello Loomis. While not strictly required, it is considered bad etiquette to remove messages, especially userspace warnings, from user talk pages without good reason. --h2g2bob 23:59, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- No offense, guys, but can you keep the chatter to a minimum here? As much as I love the "YOU HAVE NEW MESSAGES" orange box I find it a bit annoying (and it is sometimes hard to make it go away, for reasons I have yet to understand). In any case I was removing the messages because they were exceptionally stupid, usually left by someone totally confused about what they were talking about (a whole back and forth about "removed content" that was bogus, and a plea from someone who didn't understand that a picture of a guy's grave shouldn't be his main entry picture). While I find it quite ironic that I'm be instructed in bad etiquette in such a situation, I can live without it. --24.147.86.187 01:42, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] You're Not Alone
I just had a question of mine removed by a certain "eric", so I went to his userpage only to see that you had a pretty identical experience with this particular user. I can totally relate to the insult and frustration you felt. I'm really not sure what can be done about this arrogant trouble-making prick, but I just felt like writing to you to tell you that you're not alone in your frustration with this user. All the best. This is the discussion page for an anonymous user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users. Registering also hides your IP address.
