About Me

I was born in 1986, I'm male, I live in England, and I go to university at Trinity College, Cambridge, where I read Philosophy. You're not going to get my name out of me because I enjoy avatarism, a word which I'm fairly sure I've just invented, although you can probably work out what it means.

I'm currently engaged in writing a novel (which if published would be my first), which I hope to have completed by the time I finish my degree. Other than writing novels, I often enjoy writing short stories (and sometimes poems), photography, and drawing and painting, the results of which can all be seen at my deviantART Gallery.

I am absolutely hooked on the TV shows Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. For all idiots who don't know what Stargate is, it is not the same, or related to, Star Trek or Star Wars, in the same way that Superman isn't related to Superglue.

Book-wise, I'm a veteran fan of the His Dark Materials trilogy. I quite like Harry Potter but it's been getting disappointing recently, and other books like To Kill a Mockingbird, 1984, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Iliad, The Odyssey and The Aeneid (The Aeneid less so, ironically) are among my favourites. I detest The Lord of the Rings but really like the movies, and no, that is not due to having watched the movies first, because I didn't; on that point I hate Tolkien apologists.

Film-wise, Stanley Kubrick cannot be missed, with 2001: A Space Odyssey, Full Metal Jacket and A Clockwork Orange having blown me away. Other films which I think are often overlooked for one reason or another are Interview with the Vampire, Equilibrium, Soylent Green and eXistenZ.

I'm not going to give you anymore "About Me" than that, because in my experience any attempt to describe personality inherently becomes an exercise of self-aggrandisement or abasement, depending upon initial character. I'm not saying which one I'd go in for.

I'm very active on this site, and there's rarely a day I don't log on, check my watchlist and do at least a little bit of editing. My personal opinion about Wikipedia is that it should be crowned officially as the fount of all knowledge, and is the key to human omniscience. Long live Wikipedia.

Harvesting

Wikipedia is pretty much my primary reference for all of my interests or sudden intellectual persuits. I am keenly interested in Philosophy, Psychology (though not studiously), classical civilisation, various artistic movements, semantics and language, world cultures, video games as an artform, film and directing, and all of Wikipedia's interesting articles.
