- Edited because silt is not made of sand and mud. Silt is a substance smaller than sand but larger than clay.

- No. Alluvium is a type of sediment, usually the gravel, silt, etc deposited by a river along its floodplain. Sediment is a more general term that would include alluvium. Vsmith 17:34, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
