[edit] Re: Re: welcoming project

Sorry, what? Could you be more specific please? pfctdayelise (translate?) 15:01, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Oh, right. I actually haven't updated that for ages, obviously, as I am well aware of the WelCom now...when I was primarily active on en.wp I used to alert quite a few people to the WP:AWNB. I had a Babelbox for it at one stage but I guess I removed it in the interests of succinctness. Thanks for paying attention, anyway ;) --pfctdayelise (translate?) 15:13, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mining in Australia is the new ACOTF

Hi. You voted for Mining in Australia for Australian Collaboration of the fortnight. It has been selected, so please help to improve the article in any way you can. Thanks. Scott Davis Talk 13:41, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dropdown menu script

For some reason, when I add that to my css, I can have no more than a few additional tabs, even if no dropdown menu tab is present. I am not sure why, something as acting as a sort of tab limit. If I remove position = relative, the other tabs show, but the menus is very wide.Voice-of-AllTalk 05:34, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RFA

Alphax, thank you very much for your support in my recent Request for adminship, it passed with a final tally of (65/3/3) - which I find both amazing and humbling. I wish I had time to thank everyone personally, but I'm afraid all I can offer is this token of my gratitude. I hope to live up to your expectations/hopes. If at any stage you need to contact me, for help or a request or to point out a mistake in my conduct, please make sure to tell me on my talk page. --Fir0002 08:22, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Image:WikiThanks.png Hi Alphax, thank you for voting in my RFA which failed eventually at a result of (91/51/8). I do not plan to run for adminship until a later date. Once again, I would like to thank you for voting. --Terence Ong (talk | contribs) 14:44, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Group mentality

I seemed to have offended you somehow on IRC the other day (although I am still not quite sure why), but I nevertheless appologize for upsetting you in any way; I only meant our discussion to be a philosophical one on the morality of giving into group mentality, and not a personal one. [edit] Stop violating the GFDL! :O

User:Salman01 had been moving pages and I was reverting his moves. Since he had moved the page and I was using move as well back the the original source there was no GFDL violation because the history of the content remained intact. The move comment is from the MediaWiki software... not myself and I am not sure there is any other way to stop move vandalism. Did those pages have any content besides the automated creation of redirects? gren グレン 17:13, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Please don't be condescending.... I know there is a protect button I didn't use it because it was not (I thought) a recurrent problem but a mistaken user who would stop once I explained to him. I think the problem is that I thought the only page content was the creation of redirects. I should have checked to make sure there was no content. The editor moved the pages multiple times which I hadn't realized. Next time I will look more carefully. Thank you for notifying me and for you and bookofjude fixing it. gren グレン 18:05, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
I moved Sholay (film) to Sholay (2007 film) and I deleted again. This time I restored the content that had been deleted by the move. That means I didn't violate the GFDL, right? I just want to be sure. Thanks. gren グレン 12:44, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for taking on this project. I will try to be in contact with you as you go on doing this. I would also ask you to advise EvocativeIntrigue of your decision, as he was the one who originally approached me about fixing it. Other than that, full speed ahead!! P.S. I prefer a design similar to that of this page.--Chili14 04:04, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Alphax. Sorry for the lack of attention on IRC, was sorting something at work. I read the mail, got very annoyed at the writer, and have mailed both her and the communications committee about her message. I noticed you changed WP:STRAW from a guideline to a failed proposal. Sorry for saying so, but that is beyond improper. That page has been a guideline for over a year. I urge you to explain yourself on the talk page *before* redoing your edit. Thanks. Fresheneesz 07:38, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A panel about wikipedia - copyrights

Hi, I am assembling a panel of 5 that will talk about wikipedia in general. I am planing of making of covering it in 5 topics:

  1. Wikimedia Foundation
  2. Mediawiki
  3. Copyrights
  4. General info
  5. Sister projects

The panel will be a part of a more general Internet conferance that will be held 21-23 December 2006 in Ankara, Turkey.

I am looking for a person to cover the "copyrights" topic. And I think you would be an approporate person for the job.

[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Elonka

Thank you for participating in my recent RfA. Unfortunately consensus was not reached, and the nomination was not successful. However, I appreciate that you took the time to comment, and I did pay close attention to your thoughts, as I find it a valuable thing to understand how I am perceived by others in the Wikipedia community. Though the RfA was unsuccessful, I intend to continue contributing in a positive manner to Wikipedia, and if there is anything that I can do in the future to help further address your concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. --Elonka 10:14, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Outsourcing Page

You obviously take issue with the topic of "outsourcing", especially the criticisms, but I don't think the issue is the existence of a division of labor in society but how labor is organized. Would you agree? (NewTools 16:58, 8 November 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Thanks for your input

Thank you for taking part in my RfA. The RfA was not successful, mostly because I did a pretty bad job of presenting myself. I'll run again sometime in the next few months, in the hopes that some will reconsider.

In the meantime, one of the projects I'm working on is A Wikimedia Administrator's Handbook. This is a wikibook how-to guide intended to help new administrators learn the ropes, as well as to simply "demystify" what adminship entails. If you are an administrator, please help out with writing it, particularly on the technical aspects of the tools. Both administrators and non-administrators are welcome to help link in and sort all of the various policies regarding the use of these tools on wikipedia in particular (as well as other projects: for example, I have almost no experience with how things work on wiktionary or wikinews). Users who are neither familiar with policy or the sysop tools could be of great help by asking questions about anything that's unclear. The goal is to get everything together in one place, with a narrative form designed to anticipate the reader's next question.

A second project, related but not entailed, is a book on wikimedia in general, with a history of how various policies evolved over time, interesting trivia (e.g., what the heck was "wikimoney" about?), and a history of how the wikimedia foundation itself came about and the larger issues that occurred during its history (such as the infamous "Spanish Fork").

Again, thanks for your input on the RfA, and thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide for the handbook. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 13:02, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flickr

Thanks for the heads up on Image:White Rock Lake 4.jpg. I had also uploaded a 1, 2, and 3 which I fixed. Are all photos on Flickr released like this? Like someone from the Wikipedia can go and take them without asking? I was given a set of links saying I could use any of them as long as I put them under CC 2.5 (I guess 2.0) and attributed the author. drumguy8800 C T 01:45, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Radar animation of 9/11

I'll fiddle around and try and generate something workable for wiki-purposes in the next few days. A full animation of the event is not possible unfortunately as atmospheric noise was high early in the day, blanking out the smoke (it is a weather radar after all). The conditions improved a little while after the towers collapsed and then stay good for a considerable time. This gives plenty of time, and an animation showing the smoke billowing out to sea can be created - which is ideal really. I'll have to look closely at the timeline and see if the collapse of WTC 11 is visible (I suspect it probably is).--Nilfanion (talk) 23:35, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] [ælfəks]

Are you sure the second vowel should be /ə/ ? I'm not convinced, because when I say it both syllables are stressed, so I would vote for /æ/ again. --pfctdayelise (talk) 04:31, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

wikt:axe offers /æks/. I would be pretty surprised to find a schwa at the start of a one syllable word in English. --pfctdayelise (talk) 11:54, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Licencing of Star Control images

I just noticed that back on March 11 2006 you briefly added a GPL licence template to Image:Arilou.png and then removed it again with the edit comment "my mistake - not released under a free license, yet". I'm confused, since Star Control#The Ur-Quan Masters indicates it is under a free licence. Has that changed since March? Bryan Derksen 09:00, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
