[edit] Episode Summaries
[edit] The Girl Who Is A Lady Kat. Reow!
Original Airdate: March 2, 2005
This episode shows how the 14 contestants were chosen from the 20 who survived the auditions round. Among the more memorable auditions included Tiffany's, who was selected as a semi-finalist for Cycle 3, but after getting into a brawl with another woman in the bar, Tiffany was disqualified. This time around, after going though anger management classes, she was back and determined to make good of her time. It was also during the auditions that Lluvy recounts how she was once part of a gang, and Naima's dysfunctional childhood is revealed. The episode is named after another semi-finalist, Jessika, who was nicknamed "Lady Kat".
[edit] The Girls Who Hate Their Makeovers
Original Airdate: March 9, 2005
The cycle begins with the 14 contestants taken to an LA Movie Lot by Jay Manuel, their director of photography for the season, where they meet the judges, Nigel Barker, Janice Dickinson and Nolé Marin dressed as the "fashion police", introducing them to their first photoshoot - Aliens In Manhattan. Many girls impressed the judges, but the situation quickly soured when Brandy claimed to have had to wait the longest, irking Nigel, their photographer for the day.
After the shoot, the girls were then driven to a luxurious house decorated with the themes of LA, which would be their residence for the rest of the season. Afterwards, they were driven to a salon for their makeovers. Brandy and Keenyah, however, both kept complaining throughout the entire process, with Brandy visibly fed up at her signature red hair being shaved.
At the first judging, the bad attitudes of Brandy and Keenyah were frowned upon, and the former landed in the bottom two, together with Brita. In the end, it was Brita who was sent home because the judges felt that Brandy still had much room for improvement, while Brita was unable to mask her age in photoshoots.
- Bottom two: Brandy Rusher & Brita Petersons
- Eliminated: Brita Petersons
- Featured photographer: Nigel Barker
- CoverGirl of the Week: Naima Mora
[edit] The Girl Who Suddenly Collapsed
Original Airdate: March 16, 2005
The girls meet runway coach Miss J. Alexander at a stadium, where they are taught how to walk in a straight line, up and down gradients, and while carrying items. While most girls adapt well, Sarah struggles and walks awkwardly throughout the entire duration.
The next day, they are brought to a supermart for their reward challenge. They each have to pick an item to use while walking down the supermart aisle, and evaluation is elimination style. With only Rebecca and Naima left, the former is announced the winner, and she wins designer shoes by Stuart Weitzman.
For this week's photoshoot, the girls are shooting for 1-800-Flowers. While Rebecca's photo is being evaluated, she experiences a relapse of her childhood balance disorder and faints. She is sent to the hospital before she decides to continue on with judging and elimination.
Brittany, who the judges deem as overly "Triple X" in her photos, together with Sarah, who had such a bad runway walk the judges couldn't ignore, land in the bottom two, where the latter is eliminated.
- Bottom two: Brittany Brower & Sarah Dankleman
- Eliminated: Sarah Dankleman
- Special guests: Stuart Weitzman, Sandi Bass
- CoverGirl of the Week: Naima Mora
[edit] The Girl With The Worst Photo In History
Original Airdate: March 23, 2005
The girls are taken to a tennis court, where they are told that they are shooting various tennis shots for a big client. Unknown to them, this was actually a test to gauge their response while being under pressure, as the "client" was actually an actor tasked to give the girls a hard time. Almost all the girls fall prey to frustration, and Brandy later takes out her irritation on Tatiana. After the shoot, Jay Manuel finally drops the bomb, and Naima is crowned the winner for being the only one who stayed calm under fire. She wins a dinner with tennis star Serena Williams, and an autographed tennis racquet.
For this week's photoshoot, the 12 remaining girls become the 12 signs of the zodiac, and Brandy once again shows bad attitude on set.
Brittany redeems herself by producing a stellar Sagittarius picture. Conversely, Lluvy's Pisces photo is deemed as "the worst photo in the history of America's Next Top Model", landing herself in the bottom two together with Brandy. Despite the revelation, Lluvy is spared as Brandy's bad atitude causes her elimination.
- Bottom two: Brandy Rusher & Lluvy Gomez
- Eliminated: Brandy Rusher
- Special guests: Serena Williams, Beverly Johnson
- CoverGirl of the Week: Naima Mora
[edit] The Girl Who Is Contagious
Original Airdate: March 30, 2005
The theme for the week is makeup application, and Jay Manuel meets the girls at an art studio, introducing the task. They each have a limited amount of time to rush over to the various CoverGirl stations to apply makeup resembling "extreme couture". Naima is the only one to fully grasp the concept, and wins the challenge easily, choosing Christina & Lluvy to share in her prize of Lauren Scherr custom made handbags.
Noelle calls her mother, describing Michelle's facial blemishes which would not go away. These are proclaimed to be a "deadly and contagious flesh eating bacteria that will cause certain death", which causes a panic attack among the girls who had previously shared makeup with Michelle. The pandemonium continues all the way to the photoshoot, where the girls have to pose as different ethnicities with children, and Jay Manuel quickly sends Michelle for medical attention. It is then revealed to be impetigo, a treatable skin disease. Because of the possible skin-to-skin contact with children, Michelle ends up posing with a doll, brewing jealousy among the other contestants who had to pose with hyperactive children.
At judging, Lluvy is called out for not using her unconventional beauty well in her photos, while Noelle is criticized for not looking "model" in person , and is eliminated.
- Bottom two: Lluvy Gomez & Noelle Staggers
- Eliminated: Noelle Staggers
- Special guests: Lauren Scherr, Jim De Yonker
- CoverGirl of the Week: Naima Mora
[edit] The Girl With The Deliciously Tacky Dance
Original Airdate: April 6, 2005
Tyra teaches the girls about the business side of modelling, including how they shouldn't sign a contract without knowing what it is.
Afterwards, they are invited to a CoverGirl Cosmetics industry party, where they are given time to serve guests and possibly gain contacts. Unknown to them, this was a secret challenge to see who could leave the best impression. Keenyah wins the challenge and chooses Brittany and together, they jet off for a stay at a hotel and spa.
For the week's photoshoot, the girls have to pose while being blasted with cold rain and harsh winds. Many girls succumb to the surroundings, although Brittany once again shines.
During judging, the judges are fed up that Lluvy and Rebecca are both not making any progress, and week after week they keep telling them the same comment - Lluvy can't use her distinct beauty well, and Rebecca can't shake off her girl-next-door persona. For Lluvy, third time isn't the charm as she is eliminated in her third consecutive bottom two appearance.
- Bottom two: Lluvy Gomez & Rebecca Epley
- Eliminated: Lluvy Gomez
- CoverGirl of the Week: Naima Mora
[edit] The Girl Who Pushes Tyra Over The Edge
Original Airdate: April 13, 2005
For this week, the girls are given scripts to read and memorize before being put to the test - acting a scene with male model Boris Kodjoe. While many girls eat their lines due to pure anxiety, Naima once again wins the challenge, and picks Michelle and Tatiana to share in her prize - $10000 worth of diamonds.
For the week's photoshoot, the girls have to get all down and dirty as they model for Wonderbra while depicting a pillow fight scene in bed with a male model. Most of the girls struggle with this weird situation, most notibly Rebecca, who was in constant worry about her boyfriend's reaction when he saw this.
For this week's pre-evaluation test, the girls have to read out a passage filled with fashion-related jargon, testing their impromptu skills as well as fashion knowledge. Tiffany does not even attempt the challenge, and gives up. Tyra shows her dissappointment in Tiffany, prompting a weak try from Tiffany before her defeatist attitude sets back and she gives up again. This negative response lands Tiffany in the bottom two with Rebecca, whose struggles in the photoshoot were very obvious. In the end, in one of the most shocking moments in ANTM history, both Rebecca and Tiffany are eliminated.
After the revelation, Tyra calls Tiffany back, and chastises her for her defeatist attitude. When Tiffany starts giving excuse after excuse, Tyra loses her cool and shouts at Tiffany about how she had wasted the chance everyone had given her, and had only herself to blame.
- Bottom two: Rebecca Epley & Tiffany Richardson
- Eliminated: Rebecca Epley & Tiffany Richardson
- Special Guests: Rib Hillis
- CoverGirl of the Week: Naima Mora
[edit] The Girl Who Gets Bad News
Original Airdate: April 20, 2005
This week, the girls are taught how to conduct and receive interviews. After this, they are put to the test as they interview music star Eve. Christina is chosen as the winner because of her preparedness and clarity of speech, winning an exclusive interview on Entertainment Tonight. As an added surprise, Christina's mom drops in for a visit.
Right before they leave for the photoshoot, Kahlen receives a message that her best friend from high school had just passed away. Shaken by this sudden news, Kahlen is further disturbed when it turns out the set for the next shoot of the 7 sins, would be, of all places, a cemetery. Jay Manuel learns of this and allows Kahlen to opt out of the shoot, albeit it would affect her placement in the competition. After some consideration, she decides to go for it, and was able to channel all her sorrow into her "sin" - wrath.
At judging, the judges learn about Kahlen's news and are wowed by her picture, while Michelle and Tatiana produce bland shots, landing themselves in the bottom two. The judges feel that Michelle has still much to offer and send Tatiana home.
- Bottom two: Michelle Deighton & Tatiana Dante
- Eliminated: Tatiana Dante
- Special guests: Eve, Jann Carl
- CoverGirl of the Week: Naima Mora
[edit] The Girls The Lionesses Are Hunting
Original Airdate: April 27, 2005
The girls are driven to an empty parking lot, where their challenge for the week would require them to let out their "wild side" and pose like animals. Brittany's enthusiasm easily wins her the challenge, but before the prize is revealed, the girls are told that they are flying to Cape Town, South Africa.
Once they land, they are treated to a scenic safari ride that ends at a clearing in the safari. Brittany is then told that she can pick two friends to share in her prize - luxury accommodation at a hotel, while the other three have to rough it out in the wilderness. As Kahlen, Naima and Michelle bond in their tents, all isn't so rosy at the hotel, which had a cockroach problem.
For the week's photoshoot, the girls have to pose as animals in South Africa. The judges are once again amazed with Kahlen and her portrayal of the springbok, the national animal of South Africa. Keenyah's weight issue and Michelle's inability to handle pressure land them in the bottom two. Though the former is warned about her weight, she is given a second chance to lose it, and Michelle is sent home.
- Bottom two: Keenyah Hill & Michelle Deighton
- Eliminated: Michelle Deighton
- CoverGirl of the Week: Naima Mora
[edit] The Girl Who Flops In The Mud
This episode shows the first crack in Brittany and Keenyah's seemingly solid friendship. When Keenyah wins a job visting challenge and picks Brittany to accompany her to a party at designer Craig Port's house dinner and party, Brittany unwittingly steals the show from her, ruffling her feathers.
For this week's photoshoot, the girls are taken deep into the South African jungle, and they stop at a picturesque waterfall for their shoot. The catch: they have to make their own outfits from their surroundings, including leaves and mud.
At judging, as a twist, the girls are told to critique each other's photos, and state whom they feel has the most and least amount of potential. Kahlen amazes the judges with her acute fashion-based analysis, while Brittany's comments leave much to be desired. This week, Christina finds herself in the bottom two for the first time, because the judges find her persona "icy cold", and she is unable to mask that at panel. Brittany too, for her poor pre-evaluation task performance, lands in the bottom two, but is spared.
- Bottom two: Brittany Brower & Christina Murphy
- Eliminated: Christina Murphy
- Special guest: Craig Port
- CoverGirl of the Week: Naima Mora
[edit] The Girl Who Is Special
Original Airdate: May 11, 2005
The girls are brought to see Nelson Mandela's cell. Keenyah, who feels a connection with her roots in Africa, and hearing of Mandela's ordeal for democracy, cries, although she knows nothing about Mandela. This seeming hypocrisy irks the girls, most notably Brittany, who can't stand Keenyah whining to her how great Mandela is, not knowing whether he was even alive or not. At the prison, the guide passes the key to Naima to open the cell, and it is evident that Keenyah is upset with this, as she think it is her "birthright". The bad air is cleared momentarily as the final 4 soak in the history.
After this, the girls are brought to Mandela's residence, where they listen to his advice and philosophy, before they are jetted off for their reward challenge, which would require them to learn the traditional South African dance and perform it in front of a live audience. Naima gets her fourth challenge win of the season, and wins extra frames for the photoshoot.
This week, the girls have to pose while dancing with male models, and Keenyah gets disturbed when her male model touches her and grunts in her ear, and confronts him after the shoot. On the drive back, Keenyah whines about this incident. The girls, already irritated with her actions throughout the day, ignore her. When she touches the subject about the cell, Brittany finally lets loose and gives Keenyah a severe verbal lashing.
This confrontation took its toll on Brittany, who came into judging with a defeated and sad demeanor, which the judges recognized immediately and eliminated her.

[edit] What The Girls Did That You've Never Seen Before
Original Airdate: May 17, 2005
This was the recap episode of the cycle, aired 1 day before the finale.
[edit] The Girl Who Walks On Water
Original Airdate: May 18, 2005
The final 3 meet Jay Manuel and shoot a commercial and print ad for CoverGirl. Naima breezes through both rounds and is the first finalist selected for the final 2. Kahlen and Keenyah end up in the bottom two, with Keenyah's weight problem and arrogant attitude the primary reasons for her elimination.
For their final runway walk, the girls meet Mr. and Ms. J at a runway partially submerged underwater and are given a crash course about how to stomp on water. At night, the show begins as Kahlen and Naima emerge from behind a waterfall and strut down the runway together with a bevvy of other models. The judges were torn between the high fashion appeal of Kahlen and Naima's commercial appeal. While they felt Kahlen's pictures had been consistently stronger than Naima's during the competition, she had failed her final runway assessment. Tyra compared Kahlen to a girl who "did well in semester but kinda failed her final exam", and Naima to a girl who "did fair throughout semester and passed the finals with flying colours."
Kahlen and Naima are brought back in and Naima is crowned America's Next Top Model.
- Bottom two: Kahlen Rondot & Keenyah Hill
