[edit] Mythology
According to the solar mythology of Hinduism, the legend states that Vinita was one of the wives of rishi Kashyapa, and she bore him two sons, named Aruna and Garuda. They were born in the forms of eggs. She had bore three eggs, but in her impatience to hatch them, she broke one of them. From the broken egg a flash of lighting emerged. When she broke the second egg, Aruna sprang forth and he was radiant and reddish as the morning sun. But, due to the premature breaking of the egg, Aruna was without feet.
Aruna drives the chariot of Surya, and his image depicts him seated without legs on the chariot of Surya.
