As the Kazekage…! is an episode of the anime Naruto Shippuden. It is the fifth episode of the first season.

This episode starts off with the ending of the previous episode: Deidara is trapped in a ball by Gaara's sand. As the village is watching Gaara fight Deidara, the latter uses his exploding clay to escape from the ball of sand. However, Gaara grabs Deidara's leg and throws him towards the ball of sand with a mouth of Shukaku emerging to engulf Deidara from which he previously escaped. Deidara quickly reacts by creating a clay owl to deter his demise and leads Gaara's sand up higher, continuing to dodge Gaara's sand. At this point, Gaara has used some sand from his Sand Cocoon to attack Deidara, leaving a small hole on the left side.
Meanwhile, Kakashi, Naruto, and Sakura have just finished the bell test in which Naruto and Sakura were victorious. They reflect on Kakashi's weakness, and Naruto reveals that he didn't even know the ending of "Icha Icha Tactics," as he found it to be too boring after ten pages. Tsunade and Shizune appear, and inform Naruto and Sakura that the two of them and Kakashi will be forming the new Team Kakashi, of which they will all be equal Konoha shinobi.
The focus shifts back to Sunagakure, where Baki and other Sunagakure ninja are surprised to find that Gaara is fighting. Gaara is still chasing Deidara with his sand, and finally manages to catch Deidara's arm. Before Gaara can use Desert Coffin, Deidara uses his exploding clay to send a clay centipede to explode on the sand, attempting to break free, but is unsuccessful. Gaara then uses Desert Coffin on Deidara's arm. With no other choice, Deidara lets his arm get crushed, freeing himself from Gaara's hold. The sand ninja below cheer, believing that Gaara finished Deidara, but the latter retreats a bit, thinking about Gaara's attacks and his "absolute defense". Baki, meanwhile, worries what would happen if Gaara loses control of himself, but Kankuro states that Gaara "will never harm the villagers" while reflecting back on a previous conversation they had. Gaara says that he learned what's important in life when seeing Naruto fight for his friends - that it is important to share loneliness, sadness and joy with others. Gaara realized that he can't fight only for himself and that he wants to be needed by others, hence the reason he wishes to become Kazekage. By that, he shares the same dream as Naruto, who aspires to be the Hokage. Back in the present, the fight between Gaara and Deidara continues.
Now that Kakashi, Naruto, and Sakura are finished with their bell test, they have returned to their village, where Kakashi commends them for how much they've grown. As Kakashi is starting to talk about his newly developed jutsu, Naruto's stomach rumbles. Naruto and Sakura decide to head to Ichiraku Ramen Bar, where they expect Kakashi to treat them. However, Kakashi thinks about how they would used to get excited whenever they heard anything of the like, and how they used to be so cute. Jiraiya shows up and informs Kakashi that Akatsuki is on the move, and he goes to gather information. Kakashi, then, denies Naruto and Sakura their offer for ramen, stating that he needs to submit paperwork for the new team, and disappears, but Sakura suspects he just went to read. Naruto asks Sakura if they're on a date now, and Sakura agrees only if Naruto pays.
Back at Sunagakure, Baki summons the Sand commanders and orders a full alert. He then mobilizes them to prepare defenses, as he suspects that there are more intruders. Deidara then drops his specialty, what appears to be a massive clay bomb (C3) infused with chakra, onto the village. Gaara and the rest of Sunagakure gasp helplessly as Deidara detonates the bomb.
