Askim is a municipality in the county of Østfold, Norway. It lies next to the longest river in Norway, Glomma, and has always been a strategic point in wars due to its bridges across the river. It also has a weapons factory handily nearby.

The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old farm Askim (Norse Askheimr), since the first church was built here. The first element is askr m 'ashtree', the last element is heimr m 'home, homestead, farm'.

The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1963). It shows three rivers, and it is meant to represent three waterfalls in the municipality: Kykkelsrudfoss, Solbergfoss and Vammafoss.
