[edit] Spelling on User:Topbanana
Just a note to thank you for fixing spellng on my homepage. As it is, I much prefer the British English spelling of publically to the Oz/US abbreviated version so I've reverted it. Just wanted to drop a note encouraging you to carry on being bold and making things the way you think they should be. - TB 18:45, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Thought it was a typo (just call me a gnome)! But I'm afraid it's not British English - in neither complete nor concise OED. Only dic. I've found that allows it is online Merriam-Webster. Rule of adverb formation: adjective+ly, so slow+ly = slowly, intelligent+ly = intelligently, casual+ly = casually, typical+ly = typically. There are anomalous forms, eg heroically, but why create more by altering what is in fact regular, public+ly = publicly? Awien (born and educated to MA in England)
