Barlanark
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Barlanark is a district in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It is situated north of the River Clyde, in the East End of the City.
The name Barlanark is an apparently hybrid Gaelic-Brythonic name suggesting the hill at the clearing from the Gaelic bàrr and Brythonic lanerc meaning "clearing".[1].
As with many eastern districts of Glasgow, Barlanark often gets a bad press and although not having many amenities it undergone a series of urban regeneration projects. Good neighbourhood areas include Kentallen Road, Hallhill Road and neighbouring streets. Sandaig Road and Pendeen Road etc are now good quality private housing streets.
Well known people from Barlanark include the former footballer Pat Nevin and Pat Fairley, from the pop group Marmalade.
