Batta, an Anglo-Indian military term, probably derived from the Canarese bhatta (rice in the husk), meaning a special allowance made to officers, soldiers, or other public servants in the field.

Batta is also a family name distributed all over the world. the majority of Batta name comes from Europe, a minority from India and a sprinling from the mid east countries.
Batta means duck in arabic. The name probably originated in Hungary Romania region. A world telephone directory search indicates largest number Batta name families in that region. though this name is also found in old England, mostly in Wales.
