[edit] Intallments
Star Wars: Battlefront was released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Personal computer on September 21, 2004 alongside the release of the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD.
Star Wars: Battlefront II was released on November 1, 2005 alongside the release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith on DVD. The game added new features such as space battles, new units, and hunt mode.
The next installment of the Battlefield inspired, team based shooter Star Wars Battlefront III will be hitting the Xbox 360, courtesy of Free Radical. The recently announced partnership with LucasArts and unnamed sources, confirms that former Battlefronters Pandemic Studios will not be on board for the next sequel.
Free Radical is currently in the process of making a next-gen shooter Haze, also for the 360, PS3 and PC. Though previous Battlefront titles have hit the Playstation and PC there is no confirmation that Battlefront III will feature on them. Judging by the franchisies history it is very likely that Battlefront III will feature on both of these formats. It is unknown that Battlefront III will feature in any of the Nintendo formats.
Star Wars Battlefront III is set to become the third Star Wars game on the Xbox 360 following Star Wars The Force Unleashed in late 2007.
[edit] Gameplay
The gameplay is very similar to the Battlefield series of shooters. The main objective of the Battlefront games is to capture command posts or to destroy all of the enemies' reinforcements. Each side has a number of different units for the player to choose from. Vehicles can be entered at will on the battlefield.
The second installment introduced space battles and hunt mode. Space battles are won by winning a certain number of points. In hunt mode, a player chooses from either the hunter or the hunted (indigedious species).

[edit] Vehicles
Each faction (Rebels, Empire, Republic, CIS) features features different types of ships.
- Bomber/Heavy Assault (Y-wing, TIE Bomber, V-wing starfighter, Belbullab-22 starfighter)
- Fighter (X-wing, TIE Fighter, ARC-170 starfighter, Vulture droid starfighter)
- Interceptor (A-wing, TIE Interceptor, Jedi interceptor, Tri-fighter)
- Troop Transport (LAAT/i Alliance Assault Craft, Theta-class shuttle, LAAT/i Republic gunship, HMP Droid Transport)
-
- The troop transports act as spawn points when docked, so a transport can land inside an enemy ship's hangar and spawn one faction's troops inside.
- Bombers are used to take out transports, shields, and ship main systems outside the capital ships.
Speed: Low / Armor: High / Power: Very High / Maneuverability: Low.
- Fighters are all-around ships that can basically do anything. But these starfighters cannot do these objectives as effieciently as other specified ships. These ships hold lock on torpedoes.
Speed: Average / Armor: Average / Power: Average / Maneuverability: Average.
- Interceptors are high-speed fighters used to take out individual starfighters. Although these ships can take out starfighters with ease, these are low in power and armor. The torpedoes these ships hold are weak individually, but can pack power when shot in a group.
Speed: High / Armor: Low / Power: Low / Maneuverability: High.
- Transports are extremely high in defense, higher than an average starfighter. Although the slowest and least manuverable starfighter, it has a lot of power. These ships also have multiple positions, up to six, including main gunner, second gunner, and passengers.
Speed: Very Low / Armor: Very High / Power: High / Maneuverability: Very Low.
