Beatdown is an expansion set for the card game Magic: The Gathering. It was a set focused on the brutal destruction of opponents. It was created for special reprint purposes only and was not legal in Standard at the time of its release. Beatdown was released as a pair of preconstructed decks combined with accessories, unlike the normal distribution of Magic cards in randomized packs. At the time of release it sold for around $30.00 MSRP, but prices have risen since 2000. Alternate art was done for four cards: Sengir Vampire, Erhnam Djinn, Ball Lightning, and Clockwork Beast. The set itself was white-bordered, and the expansion symbol was a crudely carved spiked club.

[edit] About
The Beatdown set was created to destroy opponents. This set included some of the more powerful creatures in the game, to that date, such as the aforementioned Ernham Djinn, Sengir Vampire, Ball Lightning and Clockwork Beast. The Beatdown set was released in October of 2000. The set includes 122 special edition Magic cards divided into two theme decks, Aerodoom and Ground Pounder. Since it was solely focused around reprints, the set contained no new keywords nor mechanics.
[edit] Notable Cards
- Erhnam Djinn- A powerful creature with a deadly drawback, Erhnam Djinn was used in some green decks when it was reprinted in Beatdown, and finally Judgment.
- Clockwork Beast- A powerful creature that could rebuild itself, Clockwork Beast was a huge and unexpected creature with a mana cost that was modest for its strength.
- Sengir Vampire- The classical horror vampire of the game itself returned in this set, only to be reprinted in Torment, with its archenemy Erhnam Djinn reappearing in Judgment.
- Ball Lightning- A staple card in burn decks, Ball Lightning saw lots of play during its reprint, and was finally replaced by Blistering Firecat around the time of Onslaught
- Fireball - Fireball was another reprint, this time as a common. However, it was reprinted this time with the letters X and Y instead of just X. This caused some commotion in the gaming community. It was the first depiction of the letter Y as a variable on a tournament-legal Magic: the Gathering card.
[edit] Mistakes
- Clockwork Avian was printed without flying.
