Tenth Edition (10th Edition) is an upcoming "Core Set" for the collectible trading card game Magic: The Gathering. It is slated for release in the summer of 2007 and will replace Ninth Edition as the core set of cards for standard tournament play. The symbol for 10th Edition will be the Roman numeral "X." [1] As part of their "Selecting 10th Edition" promotion, Wizards of the Coast gave fans the chance to manage a part of the set's brand. [1] The results gave the Roman numeral "X" over the number "10." [1] A Roman numeral has not appeared as the expansion symbol since 6th Edition.
For the first time since Beta, the borders will be black, instead of white bordered like all previous core sets. [2]

[edit] Set history
Tenth Edition is currently being developed by the R&D division of Wizards of the Coast. As with the 8th and 9th editions of the core set, part of the development process for Tenth Edition includes allowing fans to select certain cards for inclusion in the set. [1] This process began in mid-June 2006 and continued for 10 weeks. A few cards that were selected to appear in the set were chosen by a voting system on the Wizards of the Coast website.
There has been some speculations and rumors in forums that the Fat Pack may come with an anthology of short-stories, instead of the novel that accompanies the new sets.
[edit] Mechanics
Core Sets contain only a select number of mechanics chosen from among the many mechanics which have been printed in expansion sets.
The keyword mechanics of equip, first strike, flying, protection, regeneration and trample have been confirmed by Wizards of the Coast to be in 10th Edition.
