Blasto was a game released for the Sony PlayStation in 1998. Although given plenty of marketing and public exposure, the game proved too frustrating for many players. "There's a good game here - it's simply hidden under many layers of frustration." [1] Phil Hartman voiced Captain Blasto, an extremely muscular alien-fighting dimwitted captain who's always in the mood for a woman from any solar system.

[edit] Gameplay
The game is a third-person shooter. The enemies are aliens that teleport in around you based on events you trigger as you explore the world. The game has a strong platform element with elements such as rotating 3d sections you have to navigate whilst shooting aliens. Puzzle elements tend to be limited to simple "find the switch" to proceed type setups.
[edit] Reception
Although not too well received by reviewers and publications, most reviews have mentioned that the game is worth it just for Hartman's voice acting alone.
[edit] Trivia
- Phil Hartman, who was the voice actor of Captain Blasto, was set to portray a similar character named Zapp Brannigan in the animated television series Futurama before his untimely death (the name of the main character--Philip J. Fry--was thus named after him).
- A second game titled "Blasto 2"was being planned, but Hartman's untimely death immediately caused it to be cancelled.
