Buddhist Association of China
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Buddhist Association of China is a major organization of Chinese Buddhism. It was founded in 1953. Oddly enough, the Buddhist Association of China is opposed to Lamaism. The Buddhist Association has warned of Falun Gong, a qigong practice defined as an "evil cult" by the Communist Party of China, that is outlawed and persecuted in the People's Republic of China. However, the Association is a branch of the Chinese government, not an independent entity.
The chairman of the Association doesn't have to belong to the Buddhist religion, but is instead nominated by the Communist Party.
