Burnunit is the screenname for Jon Olsen, a Minneapolis-based professional, artist, and student. Jon was born in Mitchell, SD and has lived all over South Dakota and the Twin Cities. Jon has been married to Leann (Freeberg) Olsen since 1996, and has a daughter named Eleanor who was born in Spearfish,_South_Dakota in 2002.

Jon is a 1991 graduate of Sturgis Brown High School and 1995 graduate of Augsburg College, a liberal arts college of the ELCA. He holds a bachelor of arts degree (cum laude) in English and Theatre Arts. In 1996 Jon entered Luther Seminary to study systematic theology, though he left the school three years later for an extended break to focus on full time work and family. He also completed the basic mixology course at the Minnesota School of Bartending. Jon re-entered Luther on a part-time basis in 2005 and promises to complete "something eventually."
He has demonstrated facility in the study of religion and Christian theology, with a particular emphasis on the works of Martin Luther and one of Luther's 20th century American interpreters, Dr. Gerhard Forde. Jon has also greatly enjoyed being a student of English and American literature, and modern poetry. Jon feels his primary interest and calling in the theater is directing and playwriting, though he has appeared as an actor on stages in South Dakota and Minnesota.

Jon is the Electronic Solutions Manager for ProGroup, a company which performs training and consulting for corporations. ProGroup's training methods and models emphasize diversity and inclusion. An "Electronic Solutions Manager" in this case means someone charged with overseeing the company's websites, as well as managing development of online training tools and resources, assisting marketing and identity efforts, and the customization and delivery of products and resources to clients. Jon has described ProGroup as the best company he has worked for.
Before ProGroup, Jon was Information Systems Manager for Country Media, Inc. Country Media owned small town and agribusiness-themed newspapers in South and North Dakota, Montana, and Nebraska at the time. Jon was charged with training staff in software and systems, particularly development of standard operating procedures for desktop publishing, file transfer to a central facility, and digital prepress. He was further tasked to create and implement information and technology resource strategies and policies, perform updates, and other duties as assigned.

Good lord this third person stuff is exhausting when talking about yourself. I am a generalized weirdo, with innumerable interests and ADD. I'm a geek and passionate foodist. I have brewed my own beer, roasted my own coffee, killed my own wild game and milled my own flour when necessary. I also punched some jerk in Tahoe, killed a man in Reno, brought home the bacon, fried it up in a pan, and never ever let you forget you're a man. Jesus is my copilot, built my hotrod, and was a union man. I have the distinction of having three bosses-- two of whom are Jewish (one carpenter, one diversity training expert) and one Methodist. I have also performed "supply preaching," which is when they get a seminarian, retired pastor or down-on-his-luck-itinerant to fill in for a preacher who is on vacation or if there's no one serving the call. I did this preaching for money, which means I have served both God and Mammon on the same day. God won, but I still cashed the expense checks. As a Scandinavian, I have strange and terrible urges whenever potato products or smoked or pickled fish are nearby.
