[edit] District Profile
The 7th District includes a predominantly suburban portion of the East Bay. It is located entirely in and covers most of Contra Costa County. This includes all of the central and eastern portions of the county (everything east of Alameda County), and the western portion of the county on San Pablo Bay.
Main cities in the district include Concord, Antioch, Walnut Creek, Pittsburg, and San Ramon. A third of Richmond is also in the district, the rest being in Senate District 9.
[edit] Politics
The 7th Senate District is a safe Democratic district. As of 2006, 47% of Registered Voters were registered Democrat while 31% were registered Republican. In 2004, Senator Torlakson ran unopposed.
[edit] 2001 Redistricting
The 7th is almost identical to the district in the 1990s. In 2001, the Alameda County portion of the district in Dublin and Livermore was removed and a portion of Richmond added.
