[edit] The Cap'n has a head wound?

Is there a source for the story about the Cap'ns education and war experience? Does he really have a head wound under his hat?

[edit] Parody image?

In the Family Guy parody image, what aspect of the character is being parodied? This is never explained in the article, leaving it unclear to me (as someone who hasn't seen that episode) what purpose the image serves on this page. --anon

I think it's meant to show Cap'n Crunch's overall popularity in pop culture terms. Then again, everyone and everything get a cameo in Family Guy eventually, so maybe it's not such a big deal ;)--RicardoC 12:48, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

The Family Guy appearence has Cap'n Crunch being parodied about the effect the cereal has on one's mouth. He is speaking to a hitman who inquires why he should kill "Count Chocula" (paraphrased) "Because that bastard has been spreading lies! My cereal does NOT cut up the roof of your mouth!" = anon

It would be good for the authors (us) to mention Cap'n Crunch whistles and their effect on AT&T's network, and Cap'n Crunch Decoder Rings, resulting in a simple substitution encryption algorithm.

  • "Cap'N Crunch Mouth"? That sounds like original research to me...--InShaneee 23:22, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
    • It's been mentioned in a few places. Quentin Tarantino used the term in an interview, for example [1]. --Delirium 23:51, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
    • I second that something needs to be mentioned about the effects of Cap'N Crunch on the roof of your mouth --65.33.167.86 03:37, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Who is the current voice of Cap'N Crunch?

[edit] Original research/ fabrication??

"Effects of Milk Despite its famous tagline, Cap'n Crunch actually becomes soggy rather quickly in milk when compared to other breakfast cereals." Because I don't live in the US I don't know about this, but it seems a rather subjective thing to put in an article. The article also says that people have been cut by the cereal. Which is true? IanF 18:02, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

I just ate some, and the roof of my mouth feels a little raw, but certainly not bleeding!

"Cap'n Crunch Mouth", the resulting rawness and soreness in the roof of the mouth as a result of eating Cap'n Crunch cereal, was a much discussed ailment amongst my friends when I was young. This painful condition does indeed exist.

[edit] Added request for cleanup

The whole section on the Cap'n's personal history seems to be uncited and unsubstantiated, and veers off towards the absurd in the end. Could someone either verify this information or remove it? 131.215.220.112 09:39, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Currently e-mailed customer service from http://www.capncrunch.com/ they may prove the article false, or based on "fact" from some advertising company! --A Gigantic Panda 19:32, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

You're right, this article is horrible. I'll delete some stuff and improve it slightly, but it will still be bad. --Xyzzyplugh 15:19, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

I removed the cleanup tag because most off the 'personal history' text has been deleted. The article is still thin, but I suppose it is about a breakfast cereal (no matter how delicious it may be). Fearfulsymmetry 01:05, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ren and Stimpy "Reference"

Is this really a reference to Cap'n Crunch, or just the word Cap'n? Michael Podgorski 08:47, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The real name of Cap'n Crunch

"This is free-encyclopedia. You recently edited the page on Cap'n Crunch. You took out my comment about how his full name was Horatio Magellan Crunch, and put something at the top about how how the page does not site its sources or something. Well, I found the fact in the reliable book by Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings, Braniac. I could not find the same fact anywhere else on the Internet (aside from Wikipedia, where I put it), so I couldn't cite the source. I just wanted to run it by you. Unless you object, I would love to re-enter that fact, because it is my personal favorite of all of my contributions.Free-encyclopedia 02:26, 28 November 2006 (UTC)" (Moved by -WarthogDemon 02:28, 28 November 2006 (UTC))

My primary objection was that virtually all of the material within the Cap'n Crunch article was unsourced, and failed our verifiability policies. If you'd like, I can assist you with referencing the item you're referring to. If the information was retrieved from a book, we can use the {{cite book}} template; just let me know the pertinent details including the page number(s) where this is mentioned. Thanks, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 02:37, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lot of work needed here.

This article needs work. Here's a proposed change to the introduction.

Cap'n Crunch is a popular corn and oat breakfast cereal manufactured by the Quaker Oats Company. It is composed of yellow, sweetened pieces intended to look like treasure chests. The cereal is named for its naval mascot, Cap'n Crunch.

Cap'n Crunch Cereal has generated several spin off cereals since its creation in 1963, of which three are still manufactured.[1] Cap'n Crunch's Crunch Berries, created in 1967, features colorful round berry pieces mixed in with traditional Cap'n Crunch.Citation Needed Peanut Butter Crunch followed in 1969, and Cap'n Crunch's Oops! Choco Donuts completed the current Cap'n Crunch lineup in 2002.Citation Needed

I think we should have a separate section for the dozens of discontinued Cap'n Crunch varieties- Bookswinters 04:17, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Also, what's the status on the Topher's Breakfast Cereal Character Guide as a reliable source? It doesn't seem like one to me. -Bookswinters 16:25, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I don't get the neutrality thing re Cap'n Crunch

Why was the neutrality of this disputed? I don't see it.

Staszu13 16:11, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Neither do I, ergo, I removed that bit. Mahalo. --Ali'i 19:19, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
