Champions Challenge (field hockey)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Champions Challenge is an international field hockey tournament, played every two years. It was introduced in 2001 by the International Hockey Federation in order to broaden hockey's competitive base at world level.
The tournament traditionally features the teams ranked 7th-12th in the world as determined by finishes in the most recent Olympic Games (and Olympic Qualifying Tournament) or World Cup (and World Cup Qualifier). In addition to an automatic spot for the host nation, the tournament field also includes the team ranked sixth and last at the previous Champions Trophy.
The Champions Challenge can be considered as the Champions Trophy for the so called B-nations. The winner of the event will participate in the Champions Trophy in the following year.
