Charles Oatley

Sir Charles Oatley (1904–1996), Professor of Electrical Engineering, University of Cambridge, 1960–1971, and developer of one of the first scanning electron microscopes.
Attended the Bedford Modern School and then St. John's College, Cambridge. He was elected to the Royal Society in 1969 and knighted in 1974. He was also a founder member of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
His graduate students included
- Thomas Everhart former President of Cal Tech
- Alec Broers former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, current president of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
- Haroon Ahmed Master of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and Professor of Microelectronics
