Chris Heimerdinger
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chris Heimerdinger is an author and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) who has written several adult and young adult novels, most of which center on religious themes familiar to LDS members. His most well-known books are the Tennis Shoes Adventure Series. He was born in August 26, 1963. Chris was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the age of 18. The eventual idea of his fictional series came to him while he was serving mission in Florida. Chris presently lives in Draper, Utah with his son Steven Teancum. His ex-wife Catherine Hines still lives in Riverton with their other four children Christopher Ammon, Alyssa Sariah, Elizabeth Liahona Cecelia and Angelina Cumorah. While Chris and Catherine were married in the Manti Temple in 1988, they were divorced in January 2007.
He first started publishing his books in 1989 when the start of his Tennis Shoe Series began. His books are based on events that originate from the Latter Day Saint Book of Mormon. Chris feels it is important to bring to life the actual stories recorded in this book and present it in a way that will attract the attention of inquisitive young adults. He states, “I wanted to present a fictional story account of the Book of Mormon from both a spiritual and a scholarly standpoint and tie it all together in a wonderful adventure.” The constant growths of his fictional novels have the intention of integrating themes and messages from the Book of Mormon to further develop a common understanding and knowledge in the readers’ lives. Not only has his worked inspired minds of young readers, but he has also been an inspiration to other aspiring LDS Young Adult authors, such as B.J. Rowley.
To further develop the ideas of his books; imagine a plot line starting out with three young kids finding an abandoned cave with secret rooms inside. These are no ordinary rooms because they are capable of transporting its visitors to different eras throughout time; such as Nephite and Lamanite time or even Roman time. The kids go through several difficult adventures and the knowledge of what the cave can do continues on throughout their family and friends as the books develop more adventures. Chris has even included breaks in between chapters to reference where in the Book of Mormon he found the information for that specific chapter.
