[edit] Types of software
Cincom is one of the oldest and largest privately held software firms in the United States. *Tom Nies has been the CEO of Cincom Systems since he founded the company. The company was founded on the TOTAL Database Product. This was a network database which Cincom successfully marketed. It ran on IBM mainframes and was ported to many different platforms and sold thousands of copies in 1970s and 1980s. Cincom developed related software including a TP monitor, a Query Tool and a ERP Manufacturing package. It the 1980s they picked up a 4th Generation Development tool (4GL) called Mantis to complement the database. This was also successful and sold over a thousand copies. In the 1990s the relational database vendors like ORACLE eclipsed the non-relational database vendors. Recently they purchased the commercial smalltalk products of several vendors and have become known as the main supplier of commercial smalltalk..
Cincom provides software in five major categories:
- Data Management
- Marketing, Sales and Customer Service
- Application Development
- Manufacturing
- Outsourcing and Hosting
